LOGISTICS: MATERIALS: ANIMATICS

An animatic is "a preliminary version of a film, produced by shooting successive sections of a storyboard and adding a soundtrack".

For films and any other motion picture the filmmaker will sit down and watch an aninmatic for their project.
When a film is released no one ever really thinks about the animatic that is made during the film making.

If the animatic isn't how a client wants it then the whole film could be stopped and not made, this is because the animatic is an insight to the whole film. This is why they are so important during the pre-production stage of any project.

History:
Animatics used to be made by real paper and a rostrum camera. An illustrator would work on the set and draw up everything needed for the animatic. To make everything have the illusion of moving, people would have to cut up the drawings, however the shapes were very simple.
Workers would get skill from using cameras, editing and animation.
Every shot had to be layed out on a table with a clear cover over it to stop then from moving, the worker then had to check with everyone that the order was okay before going through with the shots.
Modern day:
Technology has advanced now meaning that everything to do with animatics can now be done on a computer.
The shots are still done as before, nothing has changed there, however they are then put into a computer and the order of the shots is made there with the illustrator deciding the order, just like before.
Big advantages that doing everything with technology now means that changes are quicker to make and it won't go over any deadlines.

If you do not invest in an animatic then your project may fail because you did not get an insight of it before you began production. It would also be effected if you didn't put enough money into animatics because you may not be able to do it to the best you could, therefore the people investing in your project may want to pull out. Lastly, you always need to put time into animatics because if you don't then it could look rushed and that might be another reason for someone to pull out of your project, no one wants to work on something that looks rushed.
