LOGISTICS: FACILITIES: FACILITY HOUSES

Facilities houses are companies that let film makers hire out different parts of equipment that may be needed for films.  

When looking at facility houses you always get companies that are very different but offer similar things for different or similar prices. Three companies that I looked at were; pro cam, provision and camera works. The first one, pro cam, had a lot to do with the camera work and audio. This all included; cameras, lenses, audio, matte boxes and filters, monitors, lighting, power, grip. This was very good at giving people a wide variety to pick from, but they were also good at explaining each product and what they work best for. The second company, provision, focuses a lot on the camera and lighting. When looking at the camera they had a wide choice that showed loads of different companies. They also sell lenses that go with the cameras so it’s very easy for the buyer to find the right lenses. As well as focusing just on the camera itself they sell a lot of monitors and grips. Lastly, the third company, camera works, sells cameras, lenses, lighting, grip, audio and accessories. This was good so that the buyer can get lots pf things from one place, however with the cameras and audio they have a lot of the same company products, like Sony, which is a good brand but it doesn’t give the buyer a big choice when picking a camera or anything to do with audio.

Which aspects of the equipment research were the most time consuming?
The most time consuming aspect is when buying the camera, there are lots of choices of camera but you always have to know what cameras can film what your creating. Another reason why it’s hard is because you have to make sure that if you buy one camera that the lenses are easily changeable and will fit the needs of your film. Audio wasn’t hard when researching because in compared to camera it’s simple but there’s a lot of audio equipment that you need and may not realize.

What would be in impact on the production if:
      Allocating insufficient time to equipment research in the overall production timescale?
This would impact the production massively. This is because you always need lots of time to find the right equipment, if you don’t get it in time then you either can’t film or it will not turn out how you imagined it. Which means that your will won’t do the best it can in the end.

          Beginning equipment research too late?
If you being the research too late then it will be rushed, this means that you may skip out options or even be late to renting a camera and will have to push back filming. Both of these are bad because you could miss out options that may really help your film or you could be pushed back which then means that you will go over budget and may lose parts of the crew or even actors because they could be booked for something else.

      Not researching a sufficient number of companies?
If you limit the amount of companies, you research then it will affect your film. You could either lose money because you find another company after who rents or sells cameras for a cheaper price. If you limit your research that may also mean that you might not be able to find the equipment you were looking for because you didn’t look in enough places.

LOGISTICS: MATERIALS: CLEARANCES

Clearances in materials means the process you go through to get permission, you need permission for; any sets used, the cast starring in your film, music if it is not copyright free, stock film, art posters, any brands mentioned or seen in the film, books, broadcasts, computer programs (if any has been used), dramatic works, and photographs.  Clearances need to be done when making a film so you do not get legally in trouble, your trademark isn't taken down and you have all the insurance needed when making your film.  For a review, you need to go to the attorney. When doing this you need to provide the script. FINANCE: REQUIREMENTS OF FINANCE: TALENT

The talent in a film is who stars in it. When you have a short film budget like £3000 over a big Hollywood film budget like £63000000 then you might not always see actors that you know. For a £3000 budget on the talent you could hire out 5 actors. For one male actor you would have to pay him £10 per hour. For another male actor you would have to pay him £10 per hour. Lastly for another male actor you would have to pay him £10 per hour. For one female actor you would have to pay her £15 per hour. For another female actor you would have to pay her £25 per hour. If they each work for 8 hours a day then in total it would cost you £560 per day. Therefore a week of filming would cost you £2800. If your budget has £3000 on each department then you could hire them all but if you wanted to save money on your production then you could use your friends or just have 2-3 experienced actors.
