FINANCE: SOURCES OF FINANCE

Film finance is the process you go through to fund your film. There are three different types of funding. These include, public, private and joint. 

Public funding is when you go through a company and they decide whether to fund you through a public service, for example the lottery. 
Private funding means that you will can funded by a private company and they will not be getting the money from any other company or business. Therefore, the funding could be harder to get because they are giving you their own money. 
Lastly, joint funding is a mixture between the both. Half of the money is from a private company and the other half is from a company that go through a public service for money. 


Public funding is good because it gives people a chance to get funding for their films but its also good because a company don't put all their money into something that could potentially not get that much money back. 
Private funding is good funding to get for a film because it does't have public interference which means that the company gets a wider choice to invest in your film. This type of funding is also good for the filmmaker because this could potentially give the film more money because of how rich the company is. 
Joint funding is also a good funding choice to consider because it gives you a bit of both the other two funding's. This means that the public gets to contribute money to your project but you also get money from a company who support your project.

For short films I personally believe that public funding is better. This is because you have more of a chance of getting funding over a big company.Another reason that it's good is because if its your first time getting funding for a film then its good to start off with public because its an easier process. 
However, some may disagree because if you get private funding then you get to work closely with a company and with joint you get to experience both so for future projects you can pick out which one your preferred of the three.

Clearances in materials means the process you go through to get permission, you need permission for; any sets used, the cast starring in your film, music if it is not copyright free, stock film, art posters, any brands mentioned or seen in the film, books, broadcasts, computer programs (if any has been used), dramatic works, and photographs.  Clearances need to be done when making a film so you do not get legally in trouble, your trademark isn't taken down and you have all the insurance needed when making your film.  For a review, you need to go to the attorney. When doing this you need to provide the script. FINANCE: REQUIREMENTS OF FINANCE: TALENT

The talent in a film is who stars in it. When you have a short film budget like £3000 over a big Hollywood film budget like £63000000 then you might not always see actors that you know. For a £3000 budget on the talent you could hire out 5 actors. For one male actor you would have to pay him £10 per hour. For another male actor you would have to pay him £10 per hour. Lastly for another male actor you would have to pay him £10 per hour. For one female actor you would have to pay her £15 per hour. For another female actor you would have to pay her £25 per hour. If they each work for 8 hours a day then in total it would cost you £560 per day. Therefore a week of filming would cost you £2800. If your budget has £3000 on each department then you could hire them all but if you wanted to save money on your production then you could use your friends or just have 2-3 experienced actors.
